This course is a seminar and workshop series designed to inform scientists of the role their work can play in policymaking and international diplomatic affairs. Topics will explore various facets and fields of science policy across industry, government, citizen science, and international development. Students will practice analytical and ethical skills in application to speaker case studies by writing for policy and decision-making.

Assignment: With a small group (2-4), identify a diplomacy issue based on the presented lectures in which science plays a significant role and write a memo that identifies a need or problem and suggests how scientists could address the issue. The memo should be no more than 2 pages. NYU students and post-docs who submit a satisfactory memo and attend at least 5 seminar sessions will be eligible for a certificate of completion. Due 5/09/20
