In this collaborative workshop series, younger scientists will be guided on the voter registration process, how to research science-based issues, and how to contact and have productive discussions with local representatives surrounding science policy. This series will instill confidence in the next generation of chemists to be active in our government and make their voices heard.
The first workshop, which will be held online on July 25 at 2:00 PM EST, will provide scientists with the following tools to get involved in government affairs: (1) learn about the voter registration process; (2) determine a news story’s bias; (3) learn about your local representatives; (4) research local science issues.
The second workshop will be held in mid-October 2020, at a date and time to be announced. That workshop will cover: (1) how to contact and have productive meetings with your local representatives; (2) how to understand your voting ballot; (3) how to determine candidates’ stances on science issues.
