The Alaska Pod of 500 Women Scientists and Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally (ESAL) invite you to a Civic Engagement Webinar:
Civic engagement can be an important and enriching experience and scientists can offer unique contributions to their local communities and governments, including inquiry-driven and evidence-based approaches to solving problems and technical expertise in specific subjects. In this webinar, Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally (ESAL) will provide examples of STEM professionals who have made substantive contributions to their communities through local government engagement. While some provide their expertise as part of their careers, we will also provide examples of how to engage without changing careers. The topics covered are examples from Alaska or relevant to Alaskans. We hope that attendees will leave inspired with new ideas for how they can get more involved in their own communities.
Webinar speakers
– Arti Garg – Hayward Community Services Commissioner; ESAL Founder & Chair; PhD in Physics
– Kendra Zamzow – Center for Science in Public Participation (CSP2); ESAL Alaska Lead; PhD in Environmental Chemistry
